Production steps for Forged 4340 Crankshafts:

Forging:

The raw 4340 material is forged to a preliminary shape under extreme pressure and temperature in the range of 1200°C before it’s slowly cooled.

Three phase heat treatment:

Annealing, normalizing and hardening. By adopting heat treatment, the toughness of the crankshaft can be improved. Also, the hardness and wear resistance can be increased.

Rough turning, Accurate turning & Drilling oil hole:

The crankshaft is machined to final shape and oil galleries are drilled.

Tempering:

This stage relieves the crank of internal stress from the hardening process and gives the final mechanical properties.

Semi-grinding journals:

The main and rod journals are ground to near final tolerance.

Splining the keyway and Dynamic balancing

Newland Group is equipped with professional dynamic balancing machine to ensure the crankshaft balancing can meet the requirements on the blueprint of our customer.

Accurate grinding journals & Ion nitriding:

The journals are ground to final tolerances before the crank goes through ion nitriding for increased surface hardness.

The final steps:

journal polishing, cleaning & inspection. Before finishing the machining of a crankshaft, Newland Group deburr and polish crankshaft to make it better in appearance. We also carry out crack detection to ensure the completeness of each crankshaft.

Production steps for Billet 4340 Crankshafts:

Lineation and Centering hole:

The production of billet 4340 crankshafts start with a raw steel bar, lineation and centering hole is the beginning of the whole production process.
